These highways stretch 13,092 km, making Germany the country with the longest highway network in Europe and the third-longest in the world, after the United States and China. The speed limit is generally unlimited, but a speed of 130 km/h is recommended. Only trucks and lorries are charged fees on the highways. Since January 1, 2013, intercity bus transportation on highways has been introduced. In cities, public transport is provided through rail systems and minibuses to specific locations.
